Four organizations. Four ways to contribute. One cohort figuring out where they fit.
About This Program
It's a guided way to explore volunteering across four different organizations. You'll get exposure to different types of work, different causes, and different team cultures — so you can find a best-fit place to invest your time long-term.
For people who want to volunteer but aren't sure where to start — or who have tried volunteering before and want something that feels more aligned (and more social). It's also for anyone who wants their calendar to include more purpose and community.
You'll leave knowing more about what Boston needs, more about how you want to contribute, and more about the people you went through it with.
What's Included
Four volunteer sessions across the spring, each at a different local organization
A consistent cohort throughout — same group, building real familiarity
2–3 hours per session; exact time varies by organization and task
Organization and session details shared one week before each visit
A facilitated debrief conversation after the final session
Complimentary Central Station membership through 2026
Spring 2026 Sessions
Four sessions across the season, each at a different organization. Details and address are shared the week before each visit.
Session One
First Shift
An introduction to the rhythm of showing up. The first session tends to be the most surprising — in a good way.
Session Two
Different Work
A different organization, a different kind of task. The group starts to find its footing.
Session Three
Deeper In
By now you've seen two models. This session often changes people's sense of what volunteering can look like.
Session Four
The Close
The final session, followed by a debrief. Most people leave with a clearer sense of where they want to go next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Volunteering once at one place tells you almost nothing — about the organization, about volunteering, or about yourself. The whole point of Volunteer Discovery Series is exposure. You get to experience what causes speak to you more, or what types of hands-on work you enjoy digging into.
Not at all — this program is designed precisely for people who are curious but haven't found their footing yet. That said, people with previous experience find it equally useful, especially if they've only ever given time to one type of cause or one type of structure.
We partner with a rotating set of Boston-area nonprofits and community organizations, chosen for variety in cause area and volunteer structure. We'll share the name, mission, and logistics for each organization about a week before the session. All sites are accessible by public transit.
Sessions run 2–3 hours, and the exact length varies by organization and what they need help with. We'll always let you know in advance. Plan for a half-day commitment each time — the work is hands-on and worth being present for.
Cancellations made more than 7 days before the first session (April 22, 2026) are fully refunded. After that date, we're unable to offer refunds as commitments to partner organizations have been made. Volunteer Discovery Series is sold as a complete season — individual sessions cannot be refunded separately.
That's a win. We still encourage you to complete the sampler (you might be surprised!), but we'll also help you understand how to continue with your favorite organization after the program ends.
As an opening perk, we're welcoming anyone to join the Spring 2026 cohort — and your registration includes a complimentary Central Station membership through the end of 2026. No separate sign-up needed.
